Founder's Plate 2022
Rochdale Artists celebrated another year with their annual Founder's Plate competition on Tuesday 13 December. The winner was Peter Barlass, with his drawing titled "Out of the Woods".
The competition was judged by local artist Lynne Thompson, who said that "the detail is amazing, and it has taken incredible patience to establish the composition, perspective and lights in the picture." The picture has been completed entirely in pencil and is of a scene near Burnley Way.
For the competition, Rochdale Artists members can submit one piece of work from the last 12 months and there was a wide range of artworks and mediums on display. The winner is presented with the Founder's Plate for the upcoming year.
Congratulations to Peter!

April 5th 2022 – Corridor Change and Free Painting
Can you collect your pictures that are presently hanging in the corridor tonight, as we need to clear the area for next week?
While members of the committee do the work, other members can enjoy some free painting. It has been suggested we might try an Easter Theme, but the night is informal, so anything goes.
If anybody wants 'D' rings in order to enable your works for next week to be hanged properly, they will be issued this week so you can fit them at your leisure.
April 12th 2022 – Climate Change Project Please bring in the works you have completed our Planet Despair/Planet Hope Exhibition. This, our most recent major project will be hanged tonight. Let's have as many of the completed works in tonight, in order to make an impact in the corridor.
April 19th – Figure Work and Choose our Next Challenge Trying to capture movement in figures can be challenging; sports action; dance; acting; work; even sheep dog trials, can all be portrayed. Bring in any source materials you possess that you can work from. There are source photographs available in the art cupboard, if required.

Following our recent Workshop Nights, we are asking everyone to bring along their works from (and based on) those very successful evenings. To remind you, last week we had charcoal and pastel tables and a couple of weeks ago fluid (flow) acrylics and oils. As your oils may not yet be dry, we will try to hold a separate appraisal night for these.
March 8th 2022 – Climate Change Project and Free Painting
Please bring in the works you have completed so far for the Planet Despair/Planet Hope Exhibition. This will enable us to determine how the project is progressing and note any shortfalls.

March 22nd – Half-hour Challenge
Colin Fielding will join us tonight to issue a half-hour challenge. He will demonstrate completing a picture in that time himself and then we will have 30 minutes to do one of our own. Theoretically, we will have time to appraise all the work produced by the end of the evening.
March 29th – Springtime – Painting with a Seasonal Flavour
Think spring – daffodils, tulips, Easter eggs, primroses, Easter bunnies, mad March hares.
Quarterly Challenge – Instead of a separate Quarterly Challenge, we will continue with our Planet Despair/Planet Hope project, aiming to get all the works produced exhibited by the middle of April.
